Arrowsmith went swimming in the new pool. It was so good to see everyone's swimming skills progress and people enjoying their time in the water. While we weren't swimming we read books and shared our brochures. On the last day we also got to go on the new courts which was super fun!! This term we have been learning about native New Zealand animals, non-fiction features of a book, how to make a brochure and how to write a factual description. We combined all these skills and made a brochure on an animal. On the last day of term we shared them with room 11 who were doing this as well. This is our video that we showed in Assembly last Friday. The students worked in groups, they picked an animal to research and then they filmed themselves reading their findings. During week 5, we will have our first auction for the year where you can spend your Term 2 credits. If you have an idea for a reward, leave a comment. Year 6's - think about what you liked in your class auctions last year. Year 5's - if you like the idea of someone else, you can add a comment to say that you agree. Here's a good chance for you to practice leaving a comment.
Remember - only use your first name, you don't need to worry about email or website and think about your spelling so that you get it as best you can. I look forward to reading your suggestions and you never know, you might see your idea on the auction list next week. On Friday, our whole school came together to commemorate ANZAC day in NZ. It was 100 years ago this year that the ANZAC soldiers landed at Gallipoli. We had 2 former students from Tinwald speak to us because they are in the Ashburton Cadets. They spoke about what the day means for cadets and told us about the jobs they would be doing on ANZAC day. Mr Livingstone read 'The Ode' and we listened to the Last Post and Reveille while the flag was lowered and raised again. Each class also spoke about 2 soldiers from around our area who had gone to war but never returned home.
During the week we did some Anzac Art and wrote letters to our parents pretending that we were in the Trenches. We shared what we have been doing for book week with the whole school. Which was our homework models, review of our favourite books and finally we wrote different endings for our books. They walked through our classroom and we walked through theirs. Well done everyone for dressing up!! The finalists from our class were Mao, Kane and Molly it was so hard to pick!! We then got to parade our costumes to the whole school. All the finalist got to go forward to win some prizes. Mao ended up 2nd and Molly 3rd this was against the three Arrowsmith classrooms. Another special mention goes to Alex for getting 2nd in the 'Guess the teachers favourite' book competition. Here is a photo of our whole class dressed up! Last week of term next week! Only four days to go can you believe it!We have been super busy this week working on our art, writing, reading and cyber safety! Don't forget next week is Book week! There will be a book fair, guess which book belongs to which teacher, dress up day on Friday and more. Finally here is a sneak preview of our art.. |
